Man in his 20s dies after falling into River Thames while being arrested by Met police officers

A person in his 20s has died after falling into the River Thames while being arrested by police.

The Met Police stated officers had been on routine patrol in Kingston-upon-Thames final night time after they had been alerted to an altercation between a person and a girl.

An allegation of theft was made and officers had been in the method of arresting the person when he entered the water.

‘A multi-agency response to find the person was launched, involving the Met’s Marine Policing Unit, Nationwide Police Air Service, London Hearth Brigade and the RNLI.

‘The person was recovered from the water at round 00:30hrs and handled by paramedics. Regardless of their efforts, he was pronounced useless. The person’s household have been knowledgeable.

‘Police cordons stays in place and enquiries are ongoing. The Met’s Directorate of Skilled Requirements have made a referral to the Impartial Workplace for Police Conduct.’

It comes after a 41-year-old man died in hospital earlier this 12 months after leaping from a bridge into the River Thames when he was Tasered thrice by police officers.

Mr Omishore’s household stated it’s ‘incomprehensible’ that the officers concerned weren’t being investigated for any skilled misconduct or legal prices, arguing that the Taser use ‘amounted to extreme use of pressure’.

An IOPC spokesperson stated: ‘Our ideas and sympathies stay with the household and associates of Oladeji Omishore.

‘Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding his loss of life is progressing nicely and our investigators are persevering with to collect and analyse key proof.
